THE SAW MILL.

The ultimate outdoors retreat.

Sawmill - Department Two-20.jpg

THE PERFECT MIX OF PRIVATE OUTDOOR SPACE AND LUXURIOUS ACCOMMODATION.

We have worked hard to create the ultimate outdoors retreat. A fully refurbished 1955 Airstream Safari caravan nestling in a small pine wood beside the saw mill’s fast flowing lade houses an amazing super king bed, close by you will find our Keepers Hut with a comfy king size bed, and a further king size sofa bed is situated in the Seed Store a few metres away.

The Seed Store is home to your kitchen, dining room and sitting room in a wonderful wooden building originally created in the late 1800s as a kitchen, refuge and seed store for the estate foresters and now completely updated inside.

You will also enjoy your own outdoor wood-fired hot tub and a wonderful outdoor shower created in the bones of the abandoned sawmill.

NORTH LODGE...

A beautifully proportioned Georgian house.

North Lodge - Department Two-58.jpg

… AND RIVER CABIN.

Built in the late 1890s this semi-detached house was originally home to the caretakers who tended Glen Dye Lodge. In 2018 it underwent a complete top-to-bottom refurbishment. It sleeps six in two king size beds and two singles. Large kitchen/dining room, large hallway, large sitting room. Two bathrooms, two loos. No detail has been overlooked to make this a perfect holiday home.

North Lodge sits on the banks of the River Dye, venture along a private footpath that winds its way alongside the river and the Summerhouse, and you will find the River Cabin and your own outdoor haven. It has everything you need for a day or evening of outdoor mucking around, wild swimming and cooking, including a wood burning stove and a Big Green Egg.

It also has its own Swedish wood-fired hot tub in floodlit woodland.

THE BOTHY.

The perfect manifestation of our vision for Glen Dye.

Glen Dye Bothy - Department Two-21.jpg

THE PERFECT PLACE TO WATCH THE SUNRISE.

The Bothy was opened in the summer of 2020, following a complete refurbishment; floors, ceiling, the lot. It is the perfect manifestation of our vision for Glen Dye; comfortable, characterful and finished to the highest standard, from the handmade tiles in the kitchen to the Margaret Howell lamps and the art on the walls. In the garden we’ve built an outdoor kitchen (made traditionally, using no nails) complete with Green Egg barbecue and there’s a private Swedish wood fired hot tub, too.

The Bothy sleeps two in a king sized bed; there is a kitchen/sitting room/dining room and a bathroom with a shower. The Bothy is unusual at Glen Dye, being the only property to face east, making it a perfect place to enjoy the sunrise. It sits adjacent to The Old Lodge which dates from the 1700s and is the oldest house on Glen Dye by some way; it was almost certainly built as accommodation for a caretaker at The Old Lodge and in later years (until the 1960s) it was home to a forester who worked at the estate sawmill.

THE HAY LOFT.

Home to one of our favourite views of the glen.

A PARTICULARLY CLEVER PIECE OF ARCHITECTURE.

The creation of the Hay Loft was undertaken by Young Architects of the Year NoRD in 2012. Once upon time this was, indeed, a hay loft and now the central feature of this exceptional small house is its picture-book sitting room window which looks directly south over exceptional fields, forest and sky and through which hay used to pass to feed the cattle that lived a few metres away.

This is a particularly clever piece of architecture; on the ground floor there is a double bedroom with its own private bathroom. Upstairs there is a spectacular and long series of rooms including a large sitting/dining room (with that window) as well as a landing, kitchen and large double bedroom with an ensuite bathroom. Outside there is ample space for wellies and bikes and that sort of thing, all undercover and watched over by pillars painted in our trade mark pink.

The Hay Loft has: two double bedrooms, a large sitting/dining room, kitchen, two bathrooms; one loo and wet room and one with loo and bath. It also has an outdoor area.

GARDEN CAMP.

Stay in complete comfort in the grounds of the old estate tree nursery.

Glen Dye - Department Two-157.jpg

SLEEP IN A FULLY RESTORED 1958 SHOWMAN’S CARAVAN.

Book the Showman’s Caravan in the Garden Camp and get exclusive use of our rebuilt Garden Shed (modelled on the Victorian original) which is now an amazing space -open to the elements on one side- and includes a fantastic kitchen including Big Green Egg and Gozney Pizza Oven as well as a large sitting and eating area and a wonderful view.

The Camp also has a brilliant wash house with every conceivable home comfort including underfloor heating.

All of this sits below the vegetable garden in the disused Estate tree nursery where many of the original Scots Pine have now come of age.

The communal sauna and shower (which is booked for private use by guests) are near by.

You will sleep in a fully restored 1958 Showman’s Caravan with huge double bed, a lovely simple kitchen and dining area.

No. 2, 4 & 5.

No detail has been overlooked to make these cottages the perfect holiday homes.

Smiddy-17 (1).jpg

DESIGNED BY YOUNG ARCHITECTS OF THE YEAR, NORD.

These houses were designed by Young Architects of the Year NORD in 2012 as part of a full conversion of a set of then derelict Victorian farm buildings. They are heated by a central wood chip burner and were built to a strong aesthetic and environmental brief.

The houses are modern, their setting Victorian. Between the cottages, they sleep 18 in a combination of king size beds, twin rooms and singles. All have large kitchen/dining rooms, large sitting rooms and bathrooms. No detail has been overlooked.

Your own yard includes a brilliant Big Green Egg (possibly the best barbecue in the world) and outdoor table and chairs.

Cuttieshillock.

Sleep in a fully restored 1958 Showman’s Caravan.

AN EXCEPTIONAL, ANCIENT HOUSE.

This exceptional and very ancient house sleeps six and has a large kitchen, a dining room, a good-sized sitting room and a large outbuilding that we’ve converted in an artist’s/writer’s studio/hang out space complete with a wood burner. From the summer of 2021 there is also a proper, custom-built sauna in the grounds.

We have completed a major refurbishment and as usual we’ve decorated the house with very best fabrics and fittings and no detail has been left unattended to. There’s a mixture of antique and modern furniture; everything at Cuttieshillock is the best that we could find.

Cuttieshillock is around 4 miles from the main hub of Glen Dye and sits on the northern edge of the Glen Dye forest with amazing views in all directions and endless walks and adventures on your doorstep. If you don’t want to get into the car during your stay, you really won’t have to.

And, when we say Cuttieshillock (or just Cutties as it’s known locally) is ancient, we really mean it. For centuries it was an inn and troops rested there before battle in the Jacobite Rebellion (that’s nearly 300 years ago).

The Corner House.

Our favourite house at The Steadings.

PART OF THE STEADINGS AT GLEN DYE.

This large, airy house has a giant sitting and dining room to match the giant window that looks south. The back yard -complete with hot tub, big Green Egg and more- offers total privacy.

Located at the heart of the glen, The Corner House was designed by Young Architects of the Year NORD in 2012 as part of a full conversion of a set of then derelict Victorian farm buildings.

It is heated by a central wood chip burner and was built to a strong aesthetic and environmental brief.

“I STAYED IN THE 1898 NORTH LODGE AND IT WAS A TOTAL DREAM, SLEEPING SIX PEOPLE WITH THREE BEDROOMS AND TWO BATHROOMS.

FROM THE MINUTE YOU ARRIVE YOU FEEL AT HOME AND ONCE YOU GET THE FIRE GOING YOU CAN SERIOUSLY SWITCH OFF.”
