10 Stylish Hotels, Cottages and Cabins to Visit in Scotland

By Charlie Gladstone

1. Glen Dye Cabins and Cottages

Amazing and super luxurious cottages, cabins and caravans in an incredible place. Saunas, hot tubs, a pub…. Okay, so this is one of our sponsors but The Times, Guardian and Sunday Times have all voted Glen Dye in their Top Twenty Holiday Cottages in Britain so you don’t just have to take our word for it.

2. Monachyle Mhor

This hotel with an upmarket dining room sits at the end of a long single track road that skirts one of Scotland’s most beautiful lochs. There are bedrooms in the hotel and various cabins nearby. At the other end of the single track road -and indeed the cost spectrum- sits a motel run by the same people. Highly recommended.

3. Ballintaggart

Hotel, restaurant, farm, cookery school, Ballintaggart has it all. Great food, stylish rooms and passion etched deep into everything that they do.

4. Harlosh black h

This amazing building sits alone on Skye’s rugged west coast. It’s hard to imagine anywhere better suited to watching the raging sea. Amazing architecture in a spectacular location.

5. The Fife Arms

A Louis Bourgeois spider in the garden, a giant Bruegel in the dining room, a flying stag in the pub. Great food, amazing rooms. This is a must-visit for lunch in the pub even if you don't stay in the hotel. Having said that, a friend of ours loved her stay so much that she said she cried when she left.

6. Dun Aluinn

An incredibly chic house for 18 guests. A fairly standard exterior belies amazing interiors.

7. The Bosville

We loved this small hotel in the heart of Portree on Skye. It doesn’t look like much from the outside but the rooms are simple and elegant and there’s a great restaurant and lovely, tiny pub.

8. Lary Farmhouse

This large house and lodge in Aberdeenshire sleeps around 20 in elegantly distressed Scandinavian-inspired style. The library is particularly lovely.

9. House of Gods

Meanwhile, in Edinburgh, this newish hotel is all velvet, style clashes and cocktail bars. We haven’t been but we hear good things and it’s creating a bit of a splash; it might be right up your street for a sexy night in the city.

10. 57 Nord

Inspiring Scandi interiors, great architecture and a wonderful location. A brilliant addition to the new wave of Scottish holiday cottages.
