A Good Book: How to Use a Fork

WORDS BY TOM CRONK

How to Use a Fork: Stories of Mending the Broken Brain by Orlando Swayne

A few months ago Charlie recommended this book to me.

It's about brains and recovery, two topics close to my heart (and, well, my head).

Swayne is a Consultant Neurologist with broad experience across general neurology and a specialist interest in neurorehabilitation. Lofty stuff, delivered in easy to conceptualise nuggets, with real human protagonists to help put the proverbial meat on the bones of conceptual pathology.

Like all the best doctors, Swayne is bright, charming, conversational. He's a man you would want in your corner, if ever brain injury or stroke befell you or a loved one.

Emotive without ever disappearing into unrealistic, sensationalist happy ever afters.

I cried. I loved it.
