A Good Book: Unreasonable Hospitality

Unreasonable Hospitality: The Remarkable Power of Giving People More Than They Expect

I just finished this book written by the former co-owner of Eleven Madison Park, Will Guidara (if you know your restaurants, or if you've watched 7 Days Out, you'll know this place). I enjoyed reading it, as anyone working in a certain part of the hospitality or entertainment industry probably would.

What Will does is layout some simple, some more complex and some genius ways of treating your guests and running a hospitality business. Some of what he says is - I think - a bit too obvious and I do think the book could have been about 100 pages shorter but, really, I liked it. I liked picturing the inside of a seriously glamorous NY restaurant and I REALLY like Will's attitude to his team and to their guests.

Also, if you've watched The Bear, I think you'll recognise a few of the anecdotes (Will is a co-producer and writer on the show).

My main takeaway:
never stop questioning what you are doing and you will never stop improving.
