Ode to Colours May Vary

WORDS BY LOWRI JONES

In 2026 I’ve been shunning digital convenience and indulging more in simple pleasures IRL.

By that I mean, I’ve been opting for books not Audible, and in a bid to be more of a conscious consumer, I’ve been enjoying shopping in shops as opposed to mindlessly spending online. Colours May Vary is a neat summation of those two things and it was a treat to pop in last week during a visit to Leeds.

Leeds feels like home to many of us in the creative, events and marketing team here in Hawarden.

It’s far from grim up north!

Serendipitously, though unbeknownst to us at the time, the lion’s share of us studied there. Colours May Vary truly feels like a key component of the cultural tapestry of the city.

If you’re not familiar with CMV it is an independent book shop and events space stocking a collection of design, illustration, photography and counterculture. Their selection of stuff and things and bits and bobs will always make my heart sing.

You can tell they believe in everything they stock. Everything has been selected with integrity and purpose.

If you’re stuck in a creative rut their shop and website are bursting with books to engage and inspire, and I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t love a gift from them.
