So long Martin Parr (CBE). Your Legacy Lives On.
WORDS BY CHARLIE GLADSTONEMartin Parr, who died at the tail end of 2025, at a much younger age than he should have done, leaves an indelible mark on British culture. He was working abroad a couple of days before he died.
The quiet humour, courtesy, warmth and charm of his work were as influential as they were unusual. A gentle gentleman and a visionary; often imitated and never bettered.
There are many obituaries and eulogies for him across the internet, and I wouldn’t presume to add to those.
However, Caroline and I have worked with the Martin Parr Foundation for the past 4 or 5 years, maybe even longer. It is a wonderful organisation encompassing a gallery, library, studio and archive in Bristol that supports ‘emerging, established and overlooked’ photographers who make work focused on Britain and Ireland. It has an admirable desire to be a place for everyone, and to encourage and support the diversity of British and Irish culture.
Anyway, as my tribute to Martin I thought that I’d point you in the direction of this excellent organisation.
