Gabriella Rhodes
Join us for an immersive and hands-on workshop with ceramic artist, Gabriella Rhodes.
Guests will learn how to prepare locally foraged clay and use hand-building techniques to create sculptural bowls. You’ll then look at ways to strengthen the clay by adding repurposed materials and burnishing the pieces with polished stones.
The following morning, guests can participate in building outdoor ‘sawdust kilns’ with bricks and garden incinerators to fire their work. Once lit, the kilns will smoulder throughout the day and carbonise the surfaces of the bowls. In the afternoon when the kilns are cooled, the pieces will be cleaned and polished with beeswax, ready to be taken home.
This workshop is suitable for people who have no experience with ceramics. It will focus on the joy of working with clay and being outside rather than making something 'perfect'.
Gabriella will join us in The Walled Garden on Saturday 8th & Sunday 9th July.
