Things To Do In North Wales

Mountains, castles, beaches and lakes. The extraordinary landscapes of North Wales are unparalleled and the good news is that  all lie within striking distance of Hawarden. 

Britain's only Prime Ministerial library is a 10 minute walk from The Good Life Society. This gem of the literary world is home to more than 250,000  books and manuscripts and, you can stay the night in one of its 26 rooms. 

Throughout the year they host lectures and tours of the building. Keep an eye out for their annual literary festival, Gladfest.

Castles in North Wales

North Wales is home to some of the most impressive castles in Europe. Many were built in the 13th century by King Edward I and played a significant role in the history of Great Britain. 

Take your pick of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Beaumaris, Conwy, Caernarfon, and Harlech Castles. Expect towers, moats and drawbridges, as fascinating for adults as it is for children.

Snowdonia National Park

Snowdonia National Park is renowned for its stunning landscapes made up of mountains, lakes, waterfalls, and forests. There is something for everyone - hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, kayaking and even surfing on an artificial surf lagoon.

If you’re looking for a unique way to experience the area, jump aboard the Ffestiniog Railway at Porthmadog and enjoy a 13 mile ride on a steam train through the mountains to Blaenau Ffestiniog. 

Portmeirion

Portmeirion was designed and built by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis in the early 20th century with the desire of creating a picturesque and romantic Italianate village in North Wales. Expect brightly coloured buildings, cobbled streets, and ornate gardens.

The focus here is on relaxation. Visitors can stroll through gardens, enjoy a spa treatment, or just relax in one of the many cafés and restaurants.

Anglesey is known for its stunning coastline, picturesque beaches, and rugged countryside. The island is home to a number of nature reserves and areas of outstanding natural beauty, such as Newborough Forest and the South Stack Cliffs.

With its miles of coastline, rolling hills, and scenic countryside, Anglesey is a great place to enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, kayaking, and sailing.  Or if you’re not feeling active you can sit back and relax on one of its many incredible beaches.

Our series of unique luxury micro festivals throughout July, set on Hawarden Estate. You can camp, glamp, bring your camper van or book luxury accommodation like no other.

It is small and intimate. You’ll meet new friends and spend time with inspiring people. Join workshops, go on expeditions and listen to inspiring talks.

You’ll eat incredible food. Your dinner every evening is included in the ticket price. The evenings will be spent together in the Walled Garden where there will be light entertainment, a bar and campfires to gather around.

Summer Camp is also open to those who don’t want to stay onsite - you can drop in and out as you please.
